Job Summary

A reputable restaurant in Wuse 2, Abuja is seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in overseeing kitchen operations.
The ideal candidate will have strong culinary expertise, excellent leadership abilities, and a passion for delivering high-quality dishes while maintaining top standards of hygiene and efficiency.

This role requires a proactive professional capable of supervising kitchen activities, ensuring consistency in meal preparation, and driving overall kitchen performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen management and food preparation.

  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Prepare high-quality meals according to menu specifications and standards.

  • Ensure proper plating, presentation, and portion control.

  • Monitor ingredient quality, freshness, and inventory levels.

  • Enforce kitchen hygiene, food safety, and sanitation regulations.

  • Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and specials creation.

  • Train, mentor, and guide junior kitchen staff to improve performance.

  • Maintain cost control by minimizing food waste and optimizing resources.

  • Ensure timely meal preparation during peak dining hours.

  • Support in receiving, inspecting, and storing food supplies.

  • Step in to lead kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years’ experience as a Sous Chef or senior cook in a reputable restaurant.

  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen operations, and menu planning.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

  • Solid understanding of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.

  • Proven ability to manage kitchen staff and coordinate operations.

  • Culinary school training or certification is an added advantage.

  • Strong attention to detail and passion for delivering high-quality meals.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions.
